Cup or water?..

A problem that is always troubling me, My poor memory about words. No matter is my chinese, my english nor my Bm. always have a bad spelling or pronunciation. its really troubling me sometime untill i saw a story at a book. the story is like this. a young monk which is doubt full about a sutra found a well-recognise intelligent old monk ..and ask he meaning about that sutra.

The old monk then request the young man to read out the sutra . He said "Can you first tell what its write inside?then i only can define to you the meaning insdie the sutra, Because i am illiteracy"..

The young monk become very surprise and with a distrusted face, he ask the old monk : " how do you understand its meaning, when you not even knowing the word write inside?".

Then old monk become silence, and point his finger to the moon. after a while, he look at the young monk and question he :" what did you see?"


"Moon?" the young monk replied with doubtful.

"Yes, yound man. You understand now?"

the young monk was silence. after awhile the young monk look at old monk's finger, and finally understanding the old monk means and said " The finger is only the indicate for moon, so as the language is just only a contents to intelligent, we shuoldn't only restrict on pursue intelligent through language. as long as we can get intelligent, we shouldn't restrict by its contents. "

A relationship between language and knowledge or intelligent like relationship between cup and water. when we drinking, what we want is water not cup. althought, a cup without chasm is necessary(just imagine how you drink water when there is a hole below the cup", but what shall we more focus on is the water itself. a cupful of water still remain cupful wheter you use woody cup or golden cup,it wont reduce the volume. same as a pea of water still remain a pea even you use a golden cup, it wont even add a little bit at all.

If give you an option between a cupful water with a woody cup and a pe a of water with golden cup..which one you choose?^^
